Very few people have ever been able to retire young retire rich. Although that probably goes without saying, establishing clarity is always important.

So why is the idea of retiring wealthy with your best years ahead of you such a rarity?

Truthfully, there are very few routes available that lead to an early retirement and a life of leisure and luxury. Before we get into the intricacies of these routes, let’s take a moment to analyze why someone would enjoy an early retirement.

If you’re intrigued by the possibility of retiring at a young age, you probably look at jobs similarly to myself. A job or a career, if you’ve got your head straight on your shoulders, is something you have to do in order to pay for the things you want to do. As I mentioned before, there are realistically only a few ways to retire young and retire rich. The initial route is to possess an incredible amount of talent that is in high demand. It should come as no surprise, but taking this path to financial freedom is essentially impossible. I say this because at this point in your life you would assuredly recognize if you were supremely talented.

I call this route the “LeBron James” route.

This route is essentially reserved for the rock-stars and athletes. For those of you who are unaware, LeBron James is a very financially successful professional athlete. When LeBron James was 18, Phil Knight and the powers that be at Nike wrote the basketball player a check for $90 million dollars. Believe it or not, Nike’s investment more than just panned out.

Endorsements and basketball contract combined, LeBron James makes close to $50 million dollars per year. Want to retire young and retire rich like LeBron James? Unless you’re a 6’8 255 pound machine with the athletic prowess of a video game character, you’re assuredly going to need to find an alternative route! How are you going to retire young retire rich?

Retire Young Retire Rich: Embrace Unconventionality, Embrace The Internet

If you’re reading this article, you are probably not a professional athlete or rock-star. And that is okay! To be blunt and clear, the only route to retiring young and wealthy is unconventionality. Even Ivy league Medical School graduates aren’t handed a career of early retirement and financial freedom.
