Setting Business Goals With Emphasis On Activities
Setting your business goals is one of those things that’s simply vital to the success of any large organization or some home business. I am an at home business owner and for the past year I have never really taken to time to really focus on my goals and more importantly the activities that will ultimately determine whether I meet those goals.
Now obviously I have made goals for myself along the way, however I never disciplined myself enough to take those goals and put them into writing. Well my business perspective completely transformed this past week. I learned the immense value in writing out my goals in a particular way while putting emphasis on activities. I want to share these lessens with you as well as give you a couple tips to making your business goals more achievable than you ever imagined before.
Setting Business Goals – What do you really want?
So most of this information comes from the lessons I learned from my friend and business partner Chad Jaso. We met up at my house to discuss and organize a plan of action to dominate our niche in the next year. Chad is far more versed in goals setting then myself, so he led the meeting.
We started with myself, and the first thing Chad had me do was come up with my #1 business goals that would take me to the next level in my home business. I told him I wanted to earn a minimum of 10k every 30 days. This is important because we didn’t just jump into what to do to make this happen.
Instead he had me do something interesting. He said, “Write down on the white board, I do not make 10k per month.” Then he had me go through every major reason I do not ALREADY earn 10k per month in my business. I was able to come up with 5 major reasons that were keeping me from earning that level of income.
Business Goals – Dissecting the problems
Then we dissected each major reason for my lack of 10k per month and found the real root of why these 5 things had not already taken place. Interestingly enough, it was quite apparent that the only reason I was not making the money I wanted was me. Not the world around me or anybody in it. But my own misconception of myself and my business was not allowing me to move forward at a much faster rate. Then we got to the fun part.
Business Goals – Timeline for success and prosperity
This is where I really had a breakthrough. The next thing we did was take a large white board and mounted it up in my office. I wrote out a timeline for the next 6 months. Within that we took the 5 major things that I know will result 10k per month and wrote them out on the timeline. We allotted specific time frames in which these projects will be completed if not earlier.
This was where I really began to see the power in goals setting. Before I was able to stand back and look at my timeline with all my projects all strategically planned out, I was so overwhelmed with the idea of having to complete all these tasks. But something amazing happened. Once these huge thoughts in my head where printed on this timeline they all shrunk inside my head to, well, the size of that whiteboard. It is like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I am ready to take action. I am ready and prepared for 10k per month!
Business Goals – Your turn!
Alright, so here is my challenge to you. You may be like me before this past weekend and have never really taken the time to set your business goals with an emphasis on activities. If that’s you, I want you to really take some time to write out your goals and create a timeline for your success. Do not rush this process. We spent a solid 4-5 hours laying the foundation for this up and coming year.
Also you can go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a huge whiteboard for under $15. It’s not as nice as a framed one but its big and light weight. We used heavy duty Velcro patches and slapped them up on our walls. : ) To your success in meeting business goals.

Hi Grant, I think its fantastic that you point out that your lack of progress was not external, but rather internal. It’s so easy to blame the business opp or environment when usually the problems lie with lack of focus or procrastination. Thanks for the timely reminder. SpunkeBusiness
